Work by amongst others Heather Dewey-Hagborg banned from Guangzhou Triennial 2018
The 6th edition of Guangzhou Triennial, As We May Think: Feedforward, will open on 21 December at the Guangdong Museum of Art. Its title refers to an essay written by the American engineer Vannevar Bush in 1945. In the text, Bush imagines a universal communication apparatus and speculates on the advent of an information society.
Evolutions of Kin, one of the three sections of the theme exhibition during the triennial, is curated by MU director Angelique Spaninks. Amongst the participating artists are Marie Caye, Arvid Jense and Anna Dumitriu, who also participate in the expo ReShape: on show in MU till 11 March 2019.
The New York Times wrote an article about the work by Heather Dewey-Hagborg that was supposed to be on show during the 6th Guangzhou Triennial (as part of 'Evolutions of Kin', curated by MU director Angelique Spaninks), but got blocked by the Chinese authorities. Besides the work by Heather Dewey-Hagborg, works by Zach Blas, Floris Kaayk (both as part of 'Evolutions of Kin'), Lawrence Lek and Harun Farocki are banned from the triennial. Read the article here.
